Construction Cost Estimator App Reviews

I am a small remodeling contractor and have been looking for this software for close to ten years. For years the only software available for macs needed emulating software and was awful. Then a number of products came along for use on the mac OS and were similarly deficient in aestetics but more importantly in useablility. Then I looked at web hosted software and found it to be not well thought out, takes a huge amount of effort to get customized to your needs, and was generally cost prohibitive. I tried at least 20 products before giving up and designing a spreadsheat system of my own. This system was ok but not great at creating new estimates quickly because I had to use the last estimate as a template and take out all the parts I did not need and add new ones. Also this did not update costs. I have so far purchased one cost book for Construction Cost Estimator to compare my methods to theirs and it was worth the price. I will probably do a mix of creating myown costbook and using the purchased one, so some costs I will have to update on my own. This is the first estimating software I have seen that has that Apple UI that makes the estimating process intuitive, concise, and highly customizable. I have only had this software for a week and don’t want to sound like too much of a fanboy, but I am very impressed so far. I will give a follow up to this in six months or so. I almost forgot, I had a process question about deleting an existing projcet and the help section includes a place to contact support. I was emailed back with the answer in less than an hour. The cost for this product is beyond modest for its capabilities.

I like this application a lot however I strongly recommend the developers work on getting it to work across multiple devices. I purchased for iPad and Desktop thinking I could continue work from the field into office. Just doesn’rt happen. Very frustrating! However, as long as I do all my estimating from my office I am good to go!

I really love this app! It has made my job estimating so much easier. I like how you can customize reports and they have such a professional look to them. Definitely worth every penny. They only thing I would add would be the ability to access the same account on multiple computers, but it’s not a make it or break it for me at this point.

I like the software, it definitely makes estimating quicker BUT what I wish it would do is save my Cost Items in a database that I can access on other estimates. I know I can buy additional books/databases that has this info but I would also like to create my own customized Cost Item database. Thanks.

There is a TON of info here… initial use will require significant experimenting & learning to get maximum use out of the product. However, if you know your business well enough, you can create your own cost items loaded with your own specific cost factors to allow you to produce estimates for baseline services in no time flat. Generates greta looking reports & bids- EXTREMELY satisfied with this purchase!

this is a excellent app. very user freindly. would give it five stars but i wish they would alow you or give you the option to make sub folders or category dividers, along side with being in alphabetical order in “my costbook” so it is more organized. Just like what you see in the exmaple pic.

Nice estimating tool. But you can not sync your cost-book between the iPad and desktop, so you have to inner everything in twice. It would nice if I could inner a cost/item in one device and have it show up on another. It would also be nice if I could update a price on one device and have it automatically update on another. In addition your estimates do not sync between the iPad and desktop. Again it would be nice if I could type something up on the desktop and then go out into the field and have the information on my iPad, so I can show my customer. This is 2015… there is thing called the cloud? If you buy this app, buy it on the iPad or the desktop. However do not buy it on both, without being able to sync the two devices you will be wasting your money.

I am a painting contractor and use this app tom to put together estimates for comercialand residentialmpaintin. It could be geared for painters a little better but its not but it works for me until i can get Quitk books set up. There is a bug that causes problems when filling in the customers name and address, it piles the typface on top of the succeding line Name , address, city ect… this doesent happen all the time but when it does i have to work around it. This program adds up all your materials and labor. There is one thing I would like to be able to do that i can’t ,,, Add the tax to the 8.5% materials sales tax from the store to a subtotal before the final total. Other than that this app will saves me time.

The application has really streamlined my estimate and invoicing process. The access to Costbooks is also essential. Not only am I turning around estimates more quickly, but I’m also catching many areas in which I failed to account for my costs in the past. Thank you!

app is very easy to use and learn reports are very professional only con is that it does not produce an invoice (not a huge issue since most of our jobs require contracts) i would recommend this app!
